Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken with Homemade BBQ Sauce

I'm soooo excited to share this recipe with you guys! I think one of the best things I ever had in a slow cooker growing up was BBQ chicken. It gets so tender and delicious and basically melts in your mouth. For some reason, I never get around to making it, but I decided to try it with some homemade BBQ sauce. And let me tell you, I don't think I'll ever go back to storebought after this!
There is so much amazing flavor in homemade BBQ sauce without all of the preservatives and junk. You'll feel pretty legit making your own sauce if I do say so myself. It takes a second to measure all of the ingredients, but it's really easy to make. I served this chicken with my pressure cooker mashed potatoes, but you could easily serve it on top of buns with some melted cheese. YUM.

Adapted from Gimme Some Oven
Homemade BBQ Sauce
Yields: About 2 cups
1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup honey
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 cup molasses
3 Tbsp. worcestershire
2 tsp. liquid smoke
1 tsp. smoked paprika
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. salt

1. Whisk all ingredients together in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes or until the sauce has slightly thickened.
*The sauce can be kept in the fridge in a sealed container for up to 1 week.

For the Chicken:
4-6 boneless chicken breasts
2 cups homemade BBQ sauce

1. Lay chicken breasts in the bottom of a slow cooker and pour the bbq sauce on top. Toss once to combine so that the chicken is evenly coated. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is cooked through.
2. Use two forks to shred the chicken in the slow cooker and toss it once more to soak up the BBQ sauce.
3. Serve chicken on buns, on top of mashed potatoes, etc. Drizzle with extra BBQ sauce if desired.
